The Sally Ride Science Junior Academy is a series of workshops designed to fascinate and challenge students in the area of science, technology and engineering in conjunction with applied mathematics and art design (STEAM). The Academy is reserved for San Diego Unified students entering grades 6 through 12 during the 2018-2019 school year. Students in the Sally Ride Junior Science Academy will assume the roles of space explorer, ocean engineer, and/ or computer scientist as they immerse themselves in hands-on projects. Expert STEAM instructors will lead the academy workshops and serve students as both teacher and role model. All workshops will compel young women to imagine themselves as vibrant adult women in the field as they encounter stories of real women currently engaged cutting-edge research. These examples serve to inspire students and promote the accessibility of STEAM careers.

The last day of each session is reserved for students to participate in a showcase to share what they have created and learned alongside their peers in a variety of workshops.
